Popoyo is a dream destination for surfers of all levels, thanks to its consistent, high-quality waves year-round. The unique geography of Nicaragua’s Pacific coast and the presence of offshore winds almost every day create ideal conditions for surfing.

Here’s what makes the waves in Popoyo so special:

  • Variety of Breaks: Popoyo offers a mix of reef and beach breaks, making it suitable for everyone, from beginners to advanced surfers. The Main Break is a reliable reef break with long, peeling waves, while the Outer Reef delivers heavier, more challenging waves for experienced surfers.
  • Consistency: One of the best features of Popoyo is its incredible consistency. With waves breaking nearly every day of the year, you can count on having surfable conditions no matter when you visit.
  • Offshore Winds: Thanks to Lake Nicaragua’s effect on the local weather, offshore winds blow almost all day, keeping the waves clean and well-formed.
  • All Skill Levels: Whether you’re catching your first wave or looking for a powerful barrel, Popoyo has something for you. Nearby beginner-friendly spots like Playa Guasacate complement the more advanced waves at the reef.

Simply put, we stick to an upper limit of 1:3 Instructors to Students ratio. Also it’s important to note that we do not mix ability levels, therefore you will feel more comfortable with your instructions.

Videos taken for surf analysis will be shared with you free of charge.

It’s nice and warm in Nicaragua so all you need is a rash guard and a pair of board shorts/ bikini. We will provide you with a rash guard if you don’t have your own. Don’t forget sunscreen too.

Surfing equipment is included with in the surf camp packages. However, if you have your favourite personal board, feel free to bring it down as well.

This is not a must, but an advantage to feel confident in the water, and maximise your progress and enjoyment.
