The right surf camp in Popoyo is the one that matches your actual surfing experience, preferred pace and travel budget. Before comparing photos or headline prices, ask how the coaching works, where you will stay and exactly what your booking includes.
This guide is a practical checklist from Surf & Yoga Nicaragua for choosing your stay. It is not a ranking of other camps.
1. Where exactly is the camp?
Ask for the property’s map pin rather than relying on “Popoyo” alone. Check the route between your accommodation, meals and planned activities. A short walk to a beach does not necessarily mean your lessons happen on that beach. Use our location page to place our retreat in Guasacate, in the Popoyo area, before planning your arrival.
2. How will the team assess my level?
“Beginner” can mean someone who has never surfed or someone starting to catch unbroken waves. Describe what you can do without help: paddle out, choose a wave, stand up and ride along its face. Ask how groups are formed and what happens if your experience differs from the other guests.
3. How are surf spots selected?
Ask whether the team adapts the session to the conditions and the group. A famous wave is not automatically the right place to learn. No spot is suitable for every surfer every day, and no camp can promise a particular wave or an exact number of rides.
4. What feedback will I receive?
Find out what happens beyond the water session. Ask about feedback, theory and whether any video review is included in your specific booking. Useful coaching gives you a clear next step, rather than simply more time holding a board. Our surf program page explains the teaching approach.
5. What is included in the total price?
Request an itemised quote covering accommodation, meals, coaching, equipment and transport. Separate airport transfers from transfers to surf sessions. Check optional activities, payment terms and cancellation conditions. Compare the cost of the complete stay, not just the cheapest advertised night.
6. Which room suits my trip?
For solo travel, decide whether privacy or sharing matters more. For a couple or friends, check the actual bed arrangement. Confirm the room category in your booking rather than assuming every room shown in the gallery is available for your dates.
7. Does the schedule leave room to enjoy the trip?
More sessions are only useful if the pace suits you. Think about travel fatigue, time together if you are coming with a partner, and whether yoga is central to your holiday. Leave space to rest and enjoy being here.
Your next step
Compare our current packages, then send us your dates and surfing experience. Tell us what you want to learn and what a good holiday feels like to you; that is a much better starting point than choosing a package name alone.
