Day Trips from Uluwatu: Exploring Bali's Beautiful Surroundings

When you’re in Uluwatu, Bali, there’s no shortage of things to do and places to explore. From solo adventurers to couples seeking a romantic getaway and groups of friends looking for fun, there’s something for everyone within easy reach.

Solo Travellers:

  1. Ubud (Approx. 1.5 hours by car): Head inland to Ubud, Bali’s cultural hub. You can hire a car or hop on a shuttle bus from Uluwatu. Ubud is touristy but still maintains its Balinese charm. Visit art markets, explore ancient temples, or take a walk in the famous rice terraces. Prices for transportation and entrance fees vary but expect to spend around $20-$50.
  2. Padang Padang Beach (Approx. 20 minutes by scooter or taxi): If you’re into surfing or just want to chill on the beach, Padang Padang is your spot. It’s close to Uluwatu and known for its clear waters and golden sands. While it can get crowded, especially during peak season, you can still find quieter spots to relax. Prices are reasonable, with scooter rental costing around $5-$10 per day.
  3. Balangan Beach (Approx. 25 minutes by scooter or taxi): Another great option for solo travelers is Balangan Beach. It’s less crowded compared to Padang Padang but equally beautiful. Enjoy a swim, sunbathe, or grab a bite at one of the beachside cafes. You can rent a sunbed for around $5-$10. It’s a peaceful spot to unwind and enjoy the ocean views.

Couples:

  1. Nusa Penida Island (Approx. 45 minutes by speedboat from Sanur): Take a romantic day trip to Nusa Penida Island. You can get a speedboat from Sanur and explore attractions like Kelingking Beach, Broken Beach, and Angel’s Billabong. It’s a bit touristy, but you can still find secluded spots for privacy. Prices range from $50-$100 per person, including transportation and tours.
  2. Suluban Beach (Approx. 15 minutes by scooter or taxi): Known for its stunning cliff views and hidden caves, Suluban Beach is perfect for couples looking for a romantic escape. While it’s a popular spot for surfers, you can still find quiet corners to enjoy each other’s company. Prices for scooter rental and parking are affordable, at around $5-$10.
  3. Jimbaran Bay Sunset Dinner (Approx. 30 minutes by car): Treat your partner to a romantic dinner by the beach at Jimbaran Bay. Enjoy fresh seafood while watching the sunset over the horizon. It’s a touristy spot, but the ambiance makes it worth it. Prices for a seafood dinner for two range from $20-$50.

Groups:

  1. Mount Batur Sunrise Trek (Approx. 2 hours by car): Early morning treks up Mount Batur are a must do. You can hire a car or join a tour group from Uluwatu. The sense of accomplishment and breathtaking views you get as a reward are worth it. Prices range from $40-$70 per person, including guides and breakfast.
  2. Tegenungan Waterfall (Approx. 1 hour by car): Tegenungan Waterfall is easily accessible from Uluwatu by car or scooter. While it can get crowded, especially on weekends, it’s still a fun spot to swim and take photos. To avoid the crowds, we recommend going during the week. Entrance fees are minimal, around $1-$2 per person.
  3. Tanah Lot Temple (Approx. 1 hour by car): Tanah Lot Temple is iconic and is definitely something we recommend ticking off your list while you are in Bali, especially during sunset. The effect of the setting light over the water and around the temple is breathtaking. You can hire a car or book a group tour from Uluwatu. Prices for transportation and entrance fees are affordable, around $10-$20 per person.

There are a lot of stunning things to do in this gem of the world. Whether you’re traveling solo, with your partner, in a group, or wanting to meet new people, there is something right for you. You just need to light up your adventurous spirit and find it. We hope you love it.
